We headed to Wheaton Plaza via Metro this afternoon. I took some photos along the way, and I wanted to take a minute to pint out two glaring examples of a system that is in need of more attention and planning.
I have wasted a lot of breath complaining about the utility poles that stick-up out of the center of crucial sidewalks all over MC. Here is a prime example -- again. Sligo between Fenton and Georgia. This pole was probably installed sometime around 1960 - before I was born. When it was installed, there was all kind of discriminatory practices going on in America. Now, 55 years later, there is still discrimination, and it is embodied in this pole. The concrete around this pole was pour by the County lass than a year ago. It was less than a year ago when whoever led this project decided to ignore this blatant ADA violation. No one even tried to address the problem. Instead, they did what they always do - ignore it. This is discrimination against people with disablilities, the elderly, or anyone who has to walk to get around. Even though the County promised to change it's ways, they are still doing things the old - discriminatory way.
these photos show the approach the the pole, so that you can better understand how it fits into the scheme of things.
Also, i took photos along Wayne Ave approaching the Metro.
FEELS LIKE WALKING THROUGH A PRISON YARD--- AND HAS FOR YEARS.
